My Process
Finding Opportunities

I'm the Creative Director and co-founder of the Tractatus Design Studio, based in Chicago, IL. For whatever media I'm designing, I'm always following this 4 pronged process. Whatever's one's particular design practice, it's important to know who you're designing for, as well as the limitations of your product juxtaposed with the needs of your users. No product is totally complete; keeping an empathetic mindset in conjunction with consistently expanding the bounds of iteration for your product or services will serve you, your users, and stakeholders in the quest for everlasting balance well into the future as our technology catches up to our vision(s) of expectation.

Discover the problem through product excavation and evaluation. This means attaining information through processes such as comparative analysis, user testing, interviews, observation + research.

Define the specific problem the product faces, utilizing the information attained through the discovery phase, then developing persona's and empathy maps to better address these specific problems for our specific users.

Develop solutions to the problem(s) the users of the product are experiencing, testing those solutions, iterating on those solutions before entering the final delivery stage. It's important to keep in mind that through this developing process, communication between designers and front-end developers is crucial to the success of these iterations. Site maps + wireframes are the most important communication tools between these practitioners and should act as a conduit to bring fluency to the final design. If the architect can't draw a blueprint, the builder will simply not have the tools to realize their vision, deflecting from their common goal.

Deliver an iterated (or completely new!) version of the product with the implemented solutions intact. If the designer is doing their job, the translation into code + delivery of the product should be seamless. If all goes successfully, we sit and wait for a new, exciting batch of opportunities to present themselves 🎁 .
